Professor Desmond Clark will be
remembered with deep affection and esteem by those who knew him.
I met him at Allahabad University. It was the time when I was going
to submit my Ph.D. thesis and approached him with trepidation. He
was never too busy to discuss matters of archaeological interest
and no query was too insignificant to him. He always made one feel
welcome. He was a wonderful teacher and had a strong sense of intellectual
craftsmanship. His lectures were distinguished and I could appreciate
them more now, when I am teaching archaeology.
We will remember him for the charm
that endeared him to us and for his sincerity, kindness, enthusiasm,
wit and humour and the brilliance of his scholarship.
