____________________
Although I was not fortunate enough
to know Professor Clark personally, I was happy to have briefly
communicated with him through written letters. I first contacted
him in 1997 for some general advice on how to approach South Asian
prehistory, during my M.A. days. Although I have written to other
well-known scholars also, Professor Clark was the only one who always
had the decency to reply, no matter how busy he happened to be.
I respected him greatly for that. His words were always full of
sincere encouragement. From what I have heard and read about him,
that was one of his greatest qualities -- to share his knowledge
and experience with the younger generation(s) of prehistorians without
expecting anything in return.
