Tributes to
J. Desmond Clark

I'm sure that many of my colleagies in journalism would join me in remembering how invariably generous Dr. Clark was in helping us interpret the complexities of hominid evolution; in offering us unbiased comments when we needed to perform our strange version of peer-review, and for his always gently-worded suggestions for improvement when we asked him if what we were about to write was a reasonable interpretation of some scientific paper we had trouble understanding. I often wished I had chosen his field as my own and had had Dr. Clark as a mentor.
